Pendant Necklaces FAQ's
We offer a wide range of diamond pendants, with something to suit every taste and budget. The cost of a diamond pendant varies depending on many factors relating to the diamond, as well as to which precious metals are used to set the stone.
When it comes to the diamond itself, the value is dictated by four main factors: carat, colour, clarity and cut. Each pendant in our collection is graded by all these factors. Carat indicates the size of the diamond, and as you might expect, larger diamonds are more valuable. The higher the clarity of a diamond, the better quality it is considered. The colour also has an impact, with colourless diamonds often considered the best choice. Different cuts can impact value, but the choice of a particular shape also comes down to personal taste.
You can clean diamond pendants at home by soaking them for 20-30 minutes in a warm, soapy solution. Make sure you use mild, non-scented soap. Gently rub the diamond with a soft toothbrush to remove any residue and dry it with a soft cloth.
If in doubt, a professional assessment by a jeweller is the most reliable method to understand if a diamond pendant is real. However, there are some at-home tests which can provide a clue that a pendant features cubic zirconia or glass rather than a diamond.
Real diamonds are very hard, and will scratch a mirrored surface. Glass or other soft materials will not do this. You can also use a magnifying glass to look for imperfections. A real diamond is likely to have small inclusions, whereas a fake stone may be implausibly perfect. In addition, diamonds easily reflect light to give a rainbow-like effect – something which fake stones cannot easily replicate.
Generally, a relatively simple chain works well with a diamond pendant, although it does depend on your taste! Some of the most popular choices are the simple cable chain, the slightly broader curb chain, or the thicker Spiga chain, which is made of teardrop or figure-of-8-shaped links.
The length of the chain is also important. A 16 or 17-inch chain will sit high on the neck, which works well for dresses with a high neckline. Alternatively, a longer chain, 22 or 24 inches, will hang below the clavicle which can suit a dress or blouse with a plunging neckline, to fully show the diamond off.
The common belief that diamonds sparkle like rainbows is not entirely true. While all diamonds reflect rainbows, known as fire, when light is shone on them, they do not emit rainbow colours within the stone itself. This is a sign of a well-cut stone. If a diamond appears to sparkle with rainbow colours within the stone, it is likely a fake diamond. Diamonds sparkle with a gray colour and come in different shades, with the rarest and most valuable being colourless. Recently, fancy-coloured diamonds, such as yellow, chocolate, and pink, have become more popular, with the most saturated colors being the most valuable. However, it is important to note that once diamonds are set in a ring and placed in an environment with colour, it becomes harder to detect the colour. Visit Abelini for a wide range of diamond rings, including solitaires, clusters, halos, and more with options for various precious metals and gemstones.
